Could a private message on Whirlpool to another user be regarded as
defamation?

I would have thought it couldn't be, since it is the only that person
who sees the message.

Nope, because it isn't actually private.

That’s not true of Whirlpool.

If it was public then it would be defamation. If it's just private,
then I'm saying it couldn't be defamation because no one apart from the
person.

A private message on Whirlpool is private. No one else can see it. It is
not public.

Can be anyway.

It isn't, regardless what what Whirlpool calls it.

You'd be wrong, as always.

That’s wrong on both counts.

Separate matter entirely.

That’s not true of Whirlpool "private" messages.
