someone had attempted to impersonate me to buy car insurance.

No UK company would spell licence like that so there must be a good chance
it's a scam.

A genuine domain for their email is 'stopfraud@1stcentral.co.uk'.
Compare the part after the @ sign, against the email address they
suggest you send a copy to.

It is the American spelling. Not something a UK company would do.

And why would an insurance company spell it "insurtance" for their website?

Not sure you can make that guarantee about all UK companies but hopefully
most of them!

I assume this is a typo in the posting - without the 't' takes you to a
'domain for sale' page - clearly not a genuine company if that address
is correct. (but was it www1st or is that a typo too and should be www.1st?)

<https://www.1stcentralinsurance.com/> does take you to an insurance
company site - they are real and appear in the FCA register.

And putting <1stcentral.co.uk> into a web browser redirects to the
genuine site I mentioned. They also have an email address on the FCA
register of <customer.relations@1stcentral.co.uk>, so the email address
in the original post does indeed smell ratty!
