Electric locos top-n-tail the Manchester set apparently(86s rumoured), WCRC
HST for the Preston services.

It can't be an WCRT HST, as it doesn't have anything that modern. Surely
it's an LSL set?

Yes my mistake; LSL HST on the Manchester runs and WCRC stock with 86s on
the Preston runs.

As a result, apparently the usual Friday Charter will run using Saphos Rail
(red and cream) stock!

I wonder why any WCRC stock would be needed? LSL has its own, more modern,
Mk 3 loco hauled coaches. I don't think WCRC has anything newer than Mk 2
stock, and I doubt that they'd offer the sumptuous Northern Belle
carriages. The vast majority of WCRC coaches are Mk 1s.

Crewing issues, apparently. So presumably they've subcontracted to WCRC.

So it won't be a 110mph train? Or could WCRC crews operate a train with
LSL stock?

Follow-up:

The WCRC services seem to be on Friday and Saturday only. I suspect it's Mk
1 stock hauled by class 47 or 57 top and tailed locos.

It now turns out that Avanti wasn't even capable of chartering the WCR
train, so NR stepped in to do it:

<https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/09/15/government-steps-charter-old-fashioned-slam-door-trains-ferry/>

Just curious, is this the first time NR has organised a public passenger
train service? Does this count as the first GBR service?

NR organised a trip up the Conwy Valley to Blaenau Ffestiniog a couple
of years ago, apparently to celebrate the line's re-opening after
serious flooding. Originally intended for NR employees, it was opened to
the general public, including me. Leander and 48151 handled the train,
although 48151 did most of the work.
A bloke was filming the FR, and switched his attention to the full-size
stock. His video has appeared on TV - and includes an interview with me.
A bit of a shock when somebody shoves a big camera in your face and asks
questions when your mind is concentrating on something else...

I'm not surprised - the small driving wheels of the 8f are much better
that the large of the Jubilee,

A friend who has been trace on these today, sent me this summary of the
day:

"So as fun as these West Coast and LSL relief trains were, they did appear
to me to be spectacularly pointless. The LSL trains are apparently showing
in journey planners, but they’re showing on station displays as ‘charter
train’ which isn’t ideal for the general public. There only seemed to be a
small handful of passengers who weren’t just nerds along for the ride. The
West Coast trains were not showing in journey planners, were not showing on
station displays at all, and I didn’t see anyone who seemed to just be a
normal passenger. At least from WBQ where I got on, the first any member
of the general public would have known about it was from the manual
announcement as it arrived saying it was a ‘special charter train’ which
was available to ‘Avanti ticket holders’."

"I don’t understand how whoever planned it expected the travelling public
to learn about these trains so they might actually travel on them. Maybe
the logic was ‘if we advertise it loads of enthusiasts will show up’, but
surely not advertising it ensures that it will only be enthusiasts who show
up."

Sorry, didn't note the URL. However my search started with "Blaenau
Ffestiniog 3rd August 2019". Quite a few videos, but this one was about
9 mins long (IIRC)
