I checked into my supplier earlier today, Avro Energy, and noted that
OFGEM had demanded their financials last week.

A quick check of the switching sites and nothing "reasonably" available.
(the best was £1500 pa more expensive.

Since 18:00, non of the sits will quote.

I'm with Avro as well.

You will not be able to transfer until OFGEM nominate your new supplier
and this new account is active. Then you can switch if you do not like
the deal offered.

My fix was until March next hear @ �55 per month for dual fuel. I looked
into switching last week via MSE Energy Club. Sainsbury's (Npower
rebadged) was offering a fix at �67 per month. I didn't take it but I
did download my latest bill from 11th Sept and I have just cancelled the
direct debit as they are not getting a payment on 30 Sept.

Do you live in some sort of mansion?

How was the process? Did you need meter readings, or did they
effectively take over the account from the last reading? Did you have a
credit balance?

Still proceeding, both UP and EDF say the changeover took place on the 18th

UP asked for meter readings to be taken "in case" they were needed

I logged on yesterday and downloaded a bunch of statements showing my credit
balance about 4 months worth of payments, the actual balance on the summary
screen shows as zero.

Today they asked for readings to be submitted, since when their customer portal
has been error 500

Oh, wonderful. I downloaded the most recent statement from Avro, maybe I
should get some more (if I still can) for more evidence.

I suspect it's getting a little more activity than usual.

Went out for a walk at lunchtime, there were some guys trying to sell
passers-by a better energy deal. Their claims that they didn't need to
wait until Ofgem had processed the switch got very short shrift from me.

It would be nice, except the current balance is showing as blurred
lines, the recent statements is just "twirling" and the only thing
working is "We are now accepting one off payments by card"

I used to think that solar panels were the answer, at least in sunnier
climes than Scotland. Spanish electricity bills are odd, with extras
added here there and everywhere, but in the end it's inevitably more
expensive than it should be, the ongoing result of an old almost total
monopoly. We fitted panels a year or so after moving here, but the
grid consumption has remained an average of around 400 kWh per month,
despite generating nearly the same output from the panels. However we
also shifted to an ASHP for water and heating (replacing an old oil
fired boiler), and this, along with the increased air con usage in the
summer, accounts for the extra load, with any excess from the panels
offsetting a portion of the grid bills.

Still doing the calculations to see if the saving on fuel oil is worth
it, but for now I'd say the jury is out as to whether solar is really
as good an idea as it seemed at the time: at a rough guess it may take
50 years to recoup the costs, during which time the panels and the
rest of the kit will need replacing anyway. It wasn't really about the
cost though, the main benefit of the entire package seems to be a
proper supply of hot water instead of the two or three gallons we used
to get before the old boiler just couldn't cope.

My, aged, father got caught out by this when an electricity provider went bust.
He had a credit balance but he transferred out a day or two before they went pop.

His service was fine with the company he switched to. The credit balance was
apparently passed to EDF (or at least EDF took responsibility for all existing
accounts). EDF admitted they owed my father 40 or so quid in Feb of this year...
he's still waiting for it. I'm tired of hearing about it...

Considering that I lived there for half my life you might accept my
right to an informed opinion. The difference in the years spent down
in Oxfordshire was chalk and cheese, and Spain is (usually, but not
this week) significantly sunnier.
