We did it so much better back in 2000

---8<
Thursday 7 September: As the price of crude oil nudges $35 a barrel, a
litre of fuel in the UK looks set to rise by 2p.

poster
Already paying about 80p a litre - the highest petrol prices in the
developed world - motoring groups react with anger.

Inspired by the successful protests in France a week earlier, about 100
farmers and lorry drivers from Wales and north-west England blockade the
Stanlow Shell Oil Refinery in Cheshire.
---8<

$35 a barrel .... 80p a litre ..... bwhahahahahaa.. those were the days :-)

I think it was 2.18 in September when we were last here. Still a
bit cheaper than at home, where it's roughly 60p/liter right now
($3.09/US gallon).

I just paid $4.10/US gallon*. The privilege of living in San Diego -
even higher than LA.

*(Not sure what that is Sterling/UK gallon.)

Multiply by 1.2, more or less $4.92 for a UK gallon, only it is sold in litres
$1.08 a litre £0.8 more or less.

saw similar prices in some but not all motorway service stations on my
recent trip

went for a ride yesterday and had under 100 miles left so called in my
local Sainsbury's on the way home. All grades available[1] and several free
pumps so hopefully no more problems. "Only" 1.339 per litre for E10.

[1] diesel, E10 unleaded 95 RON, E5 super unleaded 97 RON[2]
[2] this went in the S1000XR at 1.409 per litre
