The 20 wasn't a ginge, it was a half-remembered factoid. What about
https://www.treehugger.com/methane-as-a-greenhouse-gas-4122208 which
portrays the action of methane as similar to CO2 (AIUI)? And doesn't
methane react with O2 to produce CO2 and H2O (both also greenhouse
gases) as it rises through the atmosphere?

Interesting article - but very much in the journalistic mould rather
than scientific pedantry. That is not a bad thing because I think
scientists do need to be better at explaining things to the
non-scientific than ever before. Otherwise all sorts of confusion appear.

30-40 years ago, methane was not considered a greenhouse gas - which is
why there were no targets set for its reduction. That is the important
point that I made that the governments around the world were just
concentrating almost solely on CO2 reduction - whereas they should been
considering the wider picture, including methane. The fact that methane
now is considered a greenhouse gas effectively narrows the goalposts for
reducing climate change. That realisation is a good thing - but
achieving it is obviously more of an uphill struggle!

30-40 years. hmm. I don't remember when, but it was a long time ago that
I remember cows being a serious problem because of all the methane they
fart out.
