I know you get the extra year's warranty thing from JL (they still do
that?), but I also see the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini prices are all £75
cheaper at JL. Do they often have lower prices on current kit there?

I've bought a few Apple devices over the years from JL and, without
trying to find some old receipts, they have sometimes been a bit cheaper
than the official Apple prices. It's a case of suck and see, I guess. I
have usually purchased items from JL for the extra year's warranty, not
that I've even had to take advantage of that (yet).

Ah, ok. I visited yesterday and damn... that Mini is nice! Being very
unexpectedly in the position to buy a new iPhone (first new one) I am
sorely, sorely tempted.

They had a shed-load of reduced kit as well
(iPhones/Watches/iPads/Macbooks) - at least half-a-dozen of each (many
more of some) in the Oxford St branch.

Only issue might be... as I found out a few years ago... was that the
Laptop we got from JL that had developed a fault had to go back to JL
then they had to pack it up and send to Apple, who repared it at their
leisure, sent back to JL and then you have to pick it up.. Took quite a
while!

Then my daughters iPhone purchased from the Apple store with Apple care
(had a good student discount on it) - when she poured methylated spirits
on it (dont ask.... a Glastonbury mishap) we took it in to the Genius
who just replaced it there and then for a new one..

I guess it depends on how quickly you want it fixed versus the cost saving

Yes that is the downside of getting warranty repairs via JL although I’ve
not had to return anything. I used to write the equivalent App Store price
on my JL receipts but I seem to have mislaid them! So I can’t say one way
or the other if you normally get a discount when buying from JL.

A friend noticed that an ipad air 10.9" silver was £50 cheaper at PCworld than at Apple.
and the blue was was about £40 cheaper the other colours being the same price.

All 2020 models of course.
