Coat hangers were actually a pretty good source of material for making
the elements of Yagi antennas. When I say good, I really mean free.

They could go rusty, I found galvanised steel wire better as they seemed
better due to the plating I guess.

Many a uhf set top aerial made from that stuff, not to mention some nice,
but narrow band yagis.
Also that ally you could get half round on one side and flat on the other
could make wonderful folded dipoles for the old Band 3 ITV Yagis, but use
tube for the directors or the pigeons bend them.

All the plain wire coat hangers I've ever seen are made of galvanised
steel.

I believe that is so. A few lawsuits over rust stains in clothes no
doubt saw to that.

Well mine are not, since if you have a clothes store which is damp enough to
rust metal, its not going to do clothes much good is it?
No most of the wire ones here are not plated with anything.
At present, its very hard to find new wire coat hangers they seem to have
been replaced by recycled plastic ones that crack and fall to bits.
