Profits at Sainsbury's have more than doubled but the supermarket has warned it faces tougher times ahead as shoppers see their finances squeezed.

It reported an underlying profit of £730m for the year to March, up from £357m a year earlier.

Sainsbury's said it was trying to limit price increases despite facing higher costs from suppliers.

</quotes>

I don't think many people will accept Sainsbury's are trying to keep profiteering down while doubling their profits. Most will see it for the lie it is, will have experienced first hand the tactics Sainsbury's and others are using to gouge their customers.

We are being bent over and screwed by capitalism because that's what capitalism is intended to do; take money from the poor and hand it to the fat cat elite.

Having seen how well it's doing that, it's not surprising Johnson is now telling us the proxy war in Ukraine will last for years. Maybe decades given the rich elite won't want it to end.

War with Russia is the perfect pretext for increasing the divide between the rich and poor, and the more the poor cheer for it the tighter the screws can be turned.

Excessive energy bills, staggering food prices, soaring costs, higher taxation, green energy subsidies, billions taken to spend on munitions and the war machine - It's a great time to be alive if you're the rich elite.

I think those at the "top" will see it that everyone is at it, so why
not. The vast majority of them can't relate to the common people nor
fathom the troubles the many are going through; and don't recognised
some those troubles are as a result of the decisions the very rich make.
Yes, they'll use empty words like: difficult decisions, trying our best
etc. IMO, it is to do with the type of company they keep, who they're
potentially chasing (in a monetary sense), their personal greed, desire
etc.

*A bit like Branson and Bezos and their space race. While the two of
them spent many millions trying to achieve a pointless feat, many of
those at the bottom of the pyramid of their organisations were simply
hoping to make ends meet, possibly even using food banks. In the same
vein, if rich 1, sees rich 2 make £££ profits, rich 1 will try to
achieve a better result.

Capitalism has encouraged such greed and selfishness. Governments as a
result of successive and successful lobbying have done nothing to curb
the the obvious. In part because the politicians themselves are setting
themselves up for jobs after political office, aka the revolving door.

I think you're being... what can I say... un-generous to the poor. I
don't think they're cheering for war with Russia they just don't think
it's on that in response to no overt military threat and no threat to
Russia's economic well-being, that Russia can decide to drive tanks into
Ukraine and pound the residences of the people living there to rubble.

You're excusing an awful lot of awfulness from Russia when you offer
them your sympathy on this HH. Russia was not being harmed before this
war. Russia was not about to be harmed. Russia chose to do harm to get
a payoff, either territory, Western concessions or both. In the TWP
"Big Book of Moral Living" that counts as an act of evil and I would say
many of 'the poor' probably also see it that way.

And you are excusing an awful lot of awfulness done by NATO and the west. In particular you simply ignore NATO and western promises not to expand eastwards, promises not to put troops on Russia's borders. You won't acknowledge NATO and the west reneged on those promises, won't criticise NATO and the west for breaking those promises.

They are inconvenient truths so you simply ignore them, like all inconvenient truths. You simply invent a revisionist view of what has happened and choose to believe it.

> Russia was not being harmed before this war.

Yes they were. They have had to suffer sanctions which were imposed after the west instigated regime change in Ukraine.

> Russia was not about to be harmed.

They were already being harmed and the west clearly signalled their intent to ramp up sanctions and harm Russia more, based on nothing more than a belief Russia would invade, based purely on unsubstantiated propaganda that Putin sought to conquer Europe.

Russia would have been harmed whether she had invaded or not.

But it's obvious you aren't interested in facts or truth and will choose to believe the propaganda and official narrative that it's all Russia's and Putin's fault.

Capitalism has failed. Though it's unlikely those benefiting from it will see it that way. And many more have been fooled into believing they are best served by capitalism, could join the rich and elite if only they work hard enough servicing the rich and elite.

People have been fooled into making themselves wage slaves to increase the wealth of the rich and elite while the rich and elite keep their wages low, the cost of living high, making putting a roof over their heads, feeding themselves, joining the rich and elite, as difficult as possible.

Only those who are willing to abuse and trample on others make it to the top, and then most will foolishly cheer those who get there on the back of our blood and sweat.

The trick has always been to give the plebs just enough so they think they are ascending while keeping the differential great enough so it is rarely overcome.

The entire concept of the "middle class" was to create a group which supports the rich and elite, foolishly strives for what they have in the mistaken belief they'll also get there, while despising and harming the poor who experience all that's wrong with the system. It is classic divide and conquer.

The rich and elite have however got greedy. The differential and divide has become ever greater. Their desire to maximise their wealth, take everyone for everything they have, has become obscene and people are starting to recognise that, are starting to understand "socialism" isn't the evil they've been taught by rote and elitist propaganda to believe it is.

There is something very wrong when individuals have the money to do what only countries could do, what many countries still can't do, when nurses and others our society relies upon are unable to feed themselves and their kids.

The middle classes are increasingly becoming poorer, joining the impoverished, and are starting to recognise the system is wrong, can see how we are 'just another third-world banana republic' where it really is us and them.

The rich elite has long had the good sense not to make the middle class their enemy, but now they simply don't care.

Having suckered so many into voting for brexit, relishing them cheering for removing legislation which protects them and gives us a fair society, having seen them vote for the rich and elite to bend us over and shaft us, who can blame them. They'll be gone before we can throw ropes over lampposts and can just as easily oppress us from afar.

Karma's a bitch who wisely invests in those who provide tools of oppression and hides her ill-gotten gains in a British overseas tax haven.
