If they aren't going to surrender, have decided to sacrifice their lives in this pointless defence, they won't actually have defended the steelworks. The steelworks, Azovstal and Mariupol will still fall into Russian hands.

Perhaps they will put up a fearless fight but Russia won't particularly care once they have won the battle.

But I am sure they will be delighted the Nazis in the Azov Battalion fearlessly offed-themselves and removed themselves from any future fight. It may even enable Russia to win the war.

It seems the defensive equivalent of a pyrrhic victory.
