of Putin's war on state TV and hints Ukraine will win

A feature of the ongoing conflict has been the seemingly unrelenting
stream of footage from Russian state TV in which hosts and analysts
engage in what has been framed as rampant pro-Moscow propaganda.

However, a clip has now emerged from a recent show in which defence
analyst Mikhail Khodaryonok offers an extraordinary and highly critical
assessment of the war, which the BBC's Francis Scarr - who has
translated the video - describes as a "damning".

The arrival of European aid means "a million armed Ukrainian soldiers
needs to be viewed as a reality of the very near future".

"We need to take that into account in our operational and strategic
calculations that the situation in this regard will frankly get worse."

He says the level of an army's professionalism is determined by the
level of training and its "morale and readiness to shed blood for the
homeland".

Mr Khodaryonok says the idea that contracted soldiers are professional
is "entrenched" in the minds of Russian political scientists, but that
this is not the case.

"Far from it! Far from it!" he says.

"But a desire to protect one's homeland, in the sense that it exists in
Ukraine, it really does exist there, they intend to fight until the last
man."

He cites the "classics of Marxism-Leninism", saying "in that regard they
weren't stupid".

"Ultimately, victory on the battlefield is determined by a high level of
morale among personnel, which sheds blood for the ideas which it's
prepared to fight for."

On NATO, and in reference to Sweden and Finland's likely entry into the
alliance, he stresses the importance of maintaining "a sense of
military-political realism".

"If you go beyond it then sooner or later the reality of history will
hit you so hard that you'll regret it," he says.

"Don't engage with sabre-rattling with missiles in Finland's direction.
It actually looks quite amusing.

"After all, the main deficiency of our military-political position is
that, in a way, we are in full geopolitical isolation and that, however
much we would hate to admit this, virtually the entire world is against us."

Scarr says the discussion continues for a few more minutes after the
posted clip, during which he disputes the suggestion made by the host
that it is only the West against Russia, saying the support of India and
China for the country "is not so unconditional".

For context: Such frank and scathing commentaries on Russia's strategy
and prospects in the conflict are almost unheard of on state television
and it is impossible to accurately gauge the impact of his remarks on a
public unused to such candour.

It will also be interesting to observe whether Mr Khodaryonok is invited
back on to such shows again in the near future, after comments that
appeared implicitly condemnatory of Vladimir Putin's actions to date.

All we get is a steady stream of anti-Moscow, anti-Putin, anti-Russia, pro-NATO, pro-Ukraine propaganda.

Spinning it as "hints Ukraine will win" and "damning" demonstrates that, and more besides.

We are led to believe the panellists and host fell into 'shocked silence' because they have been devastated through finally hearing the truth, not because "oh fuck, we've got a royal nutjob on our hands here".

Note that not one word which countered his view has been reported.

He's just one voice amongst many, put on a pedestal simply because it serves the western narrative to do that; he's right, every one disagreeing is wrong.

It's as opportunistically convenient as finding a Russian who will say "we've all known Putin's been off his head on smack and coke for years to stave of terminal health problems", someone Chinese saying "the CCP did deliberately inflict covid on the world", someone in the administration saying "the election was indeed stolen".

It doesn't prove anything, it's simply what we want to hear, and we believe hearing it proves what we choose to believe.

I presume it is to prevent similar anti-war sentiment here that the Junta have banned all but pro-NATO voices from the airwaves, prevented anyone taking an anti-NATO stance from being heard, is throwing D Notices around like confetti to keep the truth hidden.

When was the last time you heard anyone in the MSM telling the truth, "Putin and Russia do have a point; NATO did renege on its promises not to expand eastwards and not to put troops on Russia's borders", "that is a provocative act", or seen western anti-NATO protests covered ?
