ONS figures released first thing this morning showed UK inflation at its highest in 40 years - it has risen to 9% in the 12 months to April

The raw headline figures among the major economies now show the UK has the highest inflation in the G7.

The comparison tells a broad story - for example, versus France, where inflation is about half the level in UK.

This is a direct result of the French government forcing mainly state-owned energy companies to limit electricity bill rises to single digits. The shareholders of EDF paid the price.

The problem for the Junta is people are increasingly looking at France and others, turning to quite liking the idea of state ownership, hitting the shareholders instead of having to pay unaffordable amounts to make the rich elite ever richer, wondering why they can't have that.

With the Junta firmly on the side of the rich elite, bank-rolled by them, rather than on the side of the people who were stupid enough to elect them, ire is rising.

It may now merely be a question of when detonation happens. The Junta hasn't only missed its chance to settle things down, it has done its damnedest to make things worse, and has plans to pile more agony on top.

Brits are an enduring lot, but there's only so much "you need to put up with this shit so the rich elite can benefit" they will take. This is not the "Brexit Britain" they were promised, even if it is what they voted for.

The smell of simmering revolution in the air is stronger than I have ever known it to be. It only needs someone to step forward and say "time for change".

It's hard to guess who that will be and which is the straw which breaks the camel's back.
