Remember the BBC optical PPM, Charles? They used a moving mirror and light
source to make a larger unit. But just a moving coil meter in basics.
Might be possible to adapt one of those?

There were lots around at one time.

Don't remember one, but I never worked in a studio, The ones in CAR were
ordinary Moving Coil ones.

Think they were only fitted to the BBC Type B valve desks. In TV. Under
the TX monitor so thought to be easier to keep an eye on. But don't think
they ever made a stereo version.
