German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has warned that Ukraine's efforts to join the European Union cannot be expedited despite the Russian invasion.

President Emmanuel Macron of France previously cautioned that it could take "decades" for Ukraine to become a member state, an assessment the German leader agreed with.

Addressing the Bundestag ahead of a meeting of EU leaders, he said there are "no shortcuts" to joining the trading bloc and argued that an exception for Ukraine would be unfair to Balkan countries who are also seeking membership.

Rather different to NATO who want to fast-track membership of Finland and Sweden having resisted Ukraine's efforts to join for almost a decade and continuing to do so.

NATO is going the extra mile to convince Turkey and Croatia not to veto membership bids from Finland and Sweden but, when it comes to Ukraine; they can go fuck themselves.

Ukraine needs to wake-up to why that is.
