Chancellor Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty have made the Sunday Times Rich List of the UK's wealthiest 250 people for the first time.

Their joint £730m fortune ranks them at 222 of the paper's annual list.

Overall, the richest individuals and families in the UK this year are worth £711bn, an 8% rise on last year's £658bn.

Sri and Gopi Hinduja topped the list with their £28.47bn fortune - a growth of more than £11bn in a year.

Sir James Dyson and his family jumped to second in the rich list after a £6.7bn increase to £23bn.

It's difficult to imagine how those with billions can increase their wealth by so much - up over 60% for the Hinduj's, up over 40% for Dyson - when Brits are suffering so badly, having to queue at food banks and ride around on buses just to keep themselves warm.

They are flitting around in helicopters and private jets while the rest of us are struggling to pay the bills and make ends meet. They will spend more on a single meal than a family has to spend in a year.

For the overwhelming majority "trickle-down economics" means getting pissed on from a great height.

And yet they keep voting for those who make the richer wealthier by stealing from the poor. Go figure.
