A Volkswagen driver did not stop when they hit an eleven-year-old girl who was riding her bike in Taunton.

Avon and Somerset Police has launched an appeal following the incident near Lidl in Castle Street.

The girl was taken to hospital after the collision to receive treatment for her injuries.

Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: "We’re seeking dashcam footage or witnesses following a road traffic collision in Taunton that left a child injured.

"A red Volkswagen hatchback was being driven along Castle Street, near Lidl, at about 4.35pm on Wednesday, December 15 when it collided with an 11-year-old who was riding a bike.

"She was taken to hospital but has since returned home. The driver of the car failed to stop and CCTV enquiries are ongoing."

Police believe there were a number of witnesses in the area at the time of the collision.

Anybody with information is urged to call police on 101 with reference number 5221294335.
