Pfizer vaccine was more conventional. Have I got it the wrong way

Appeals to authority do not work in science. Experimental evidence does.
Covid is now only a lethal disease in the ignorant fools who remain
unvaccinated and the immunosuppressed (who have little choice).

The Pfizer data was remarkably clear and even better than they actually
claimed at the time once you used Bayesian statistics to analyse it.

I would have much preferred the Pfizer vaccine first time around and
said so at the time (although I actually had AZ, AZ and Pfizer as a
booster). It later turns out this is about the optimal combo.

Any effective vaccine is better than none against a potentially lethal
disease.

Pfizer was demonstrably better than all the others available early on
with nearly 20x reduction in symptomatic infections in the test cohort.

AZ by comparison was somewhere between 3-4x reduction.

If you want to see what happens without truly effective Covid vaccines
then Brazil and China are the places to look. Shanghai is presently
locked down because the Chinese home grown vaccine is not as good.

I was wondering that too. Surely this debate is over.

Vaccines prevented people being hospitalised or even dying from Covid. Two
thirds of the world population (5.1 billion) have had the vaccine and
there are almost no deaths due to the vaccine itself.

AZ is a viral vector vaccine, which like mRNA is a new technology. Viral
vector vaccines had only used for Ebola vaccines prior to Covid.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are mRNA. The AZ is a viral vector
vaccine. Neither are "traditional" attenuated virus vaccines. Both
technologies stimulate the body to replicate cells with a copy of the
spike protein from the outer sheath of the virus rather than the actual
pathogen itself.

Yes.

Pfizer was first to market with an mRNA (but needing -80C cold chain)
Moderna was next with an mRNA and conventional cold chain.

AZ was modified monkey cold virus with spike protein code spliced in.
(as was Russias Sputnik)

Both of the above are new technologies for vaccine delivery.

Sinovac is the only common mass produced Covid vaccine using classical
methods. It was never as good as any of the novel ones and is worse now.

Chinese vaccine is a damaged dead inactivated real virus (and also less
effective). That is biting them in the backside right now. It is
considerably less effective against Delta and Omicron variants.

I have had AZ and Pfizer. And several bouts of lung issues that may
have been colds flus or covid.

But since my lungs are shot anyway I also have a panoply of pills and
inhalers I use daily, which probably helped as well.

The fact is that these vaccines are not especially dangerous, just
rather rushed through on account of the alternatives being worse.

However we have seen what happens when European powers start flexing
their muscles, It never ends well.

To date throwing weapons at Ukraine is a lot cheaper and politically
more acceptable than taking on Putin head on. And doesnt unite his

Indeed, although even the Sinopham vaccine (which is demonstrably less
effective than the mRNA or VV vaccines at preventing infection and
spread), is still pretty good at preventing death and serious illness.
China's main problem now is that they have only vaccinated ~50% of those
over 80s.

(and Pz and AZ have become less effective and preventing infection and
spread of some of the new variants - but they still remain very
effective at preventing serious illness)
