Video about a robot dog in a power plant in Austria - skip to 2.35 and
freeze frame!

I feel the urge to see this pumped storage power plant. Riding there
would, of course, be a complete chore. :-)

We rode that loop with wessie and Ginge in 2009, during the Alpenstars

Indeed not. Our current FJR is better. However, there comes a point
when bends turn from being "fun" to being "hard work". Our general
criterion is if the road is used by coaches it'll probably suit us
fine.

I am often surprised where I meet coaches and sometimes I think a road
is hard work then get to the top and find there is a 4 axle, 30 tonne
tipper at the top of the pass, delivering hard core.

Yessss. I find the FJR to be most enjoyable on long sweepers at speed,
it can handle the tight stuff OK, but in a series of tight switchbacks
it quickly becomes a test of stamina from having to wrestle it around.

I prefer a variety of turns where you don't know what's coming up.
Hairpin after hairpin just gets tedious.

Even on a smaller bike it can be tiring: I went for lunch last week at
a spot up a series of hairpins and had to explain why I, out in the
fresh air, was sweating and out of breath when the rest of the group
who travelled by car were all fine.

Never seen any coaches going up that road - in fact I don't think they
could make it round some of the corners (CV675, south of Simat de la
Valldigna). There is another approach to the village with easier
access, still designed to ground the footpegs though.

Hah! I dread the day they are ever programmed with morality and an idea

No, still to try that one. There are smaller bars that have survived
the plague in Barx, and we try to support the local places. Lunch and
drinks at around 22€, but drinks were taken in moderation - I don't
want to take the more direct route down the hill.

Would post some video but I tend to get the speedo in the frame, and
there is a 30 KPH limit on much of the hill. There are a multitude of
interesting routes round here, interspersed with long boring
straights: for instance, the CV700 a bit to the south is described as
'challenging' on dangerousroads.org, another stretch designed to wear
you out.

how is that challenging? There's a while line down the middle, safety
barriers and a rain gutter!

Adverse camber, blind corners, rock face walls, north facing so it
doesn't dry very well, occasional washout debris just where you don't
need or want it. Street View doesn't properly represent the reality,
especially on the mid stretches, it is narrower than it appears.

I'll grant that the CV600 going west from Simat is easier and largely
meets your criteria without the disadvantages, but still heaps of fun,
especially since it was partly resurfaced. Oh and it now has a 60 KPH
limit over some of the best bits, which is less endearing. Honestly,
the Spanish are getting even more paranoid over speed than the UK.

I guess YMMV. I think of a challenging road where you drop around a
corner to find the road becomes a cobbled track through a Portugeuse
farmyard with 33% hairpins or 49 cobbled hairpins over a pass in
Slovenia that have been rutted by trucks. The first really grabs your
attention and the latter is properly tiresome.

Senility sucks. So does an essential tremor. I filter almost every day,
usually on a mile long stretch where our local streets are worse than
many 3rd world countries. My FJR is wider than many bikes, adding to the
challenge, and the tremor has gotten worse, along with weaker muscles of
old age. Add it all up and I worry more and more. Thank Ged more people
are more courteous, giving me more room.
