A Yorkshire man has spoken out after Storm Malik felled a huge tree that crashed onto his van while he was inside it.

Cyclist Richard Nutter told BBC News he had just come back from a bike ride near Apperley Bridge, Bradford when the strong winds brought the tree down on top of his vehicle.

The tree completely crushed the front part of the vehicle, and Richard's friend had to pull him out of the back.

Richard told the BBC: "I was in the back of the van just getting changed after a bike ride and a tree fell on me.

"I was sat between the two backseats just crouching down. Then I had to lay on the floor and my friend pulled me out of the back of the van.

"I'm a very lucky man."

A yellow warning for wind has been issued across parts of Yorkshire today - including Bradford and Leeds as Storm Malik rages.

Richard's friend and fellow cyclist, Lee Warriner, told BBC News: "I looked at the van and I could see it was absolutely decimated. It was very lucky, we're both very fortunate. The evidence of that is here for you to see yourself.

"Conditions didn't start off too bad but as we continued around the downhill sections in the woods there were various bits of debris and detritus just flying off the trees.

"A few branches were hitting us in the helmets and on the back. To be honest, we thought we were out of the woods - no pun intended - when we got out back to the vehicles and look what happened."

There has been chaos across Yorkshire today, with many felled trees, a blown away marquee, and another car crushed by fallen bricks.

Elsewhere in the country, a 60-year-old woman has been killed by a falling tree in Scotland.

Yellow warnings for wind remain in place in Yorkshire throughout Sunday, January 30 and Monday, January 31.

"Cyclist Richard Nutter"...

No. I'm not going to make any further comment.
