"there is not enough room..." I have about 40GB free so I deleted an
old iPhone backup - but that doesn't seem to have freed up space? Also,
why the discrapancy here - two backups around the same time, but
differently named <https://imgur.com/a/9kf57dL>

That's just an ad below Mark's image. His image is pretty small so it's
easy to miss amongst all the other guff.

I had to do this recently with my wife's old iPhone SE.

Connect the phone to an Apple computer with a lightning cable and then
'follow your nose' as it were.

On a recent macOS? You may need to clear some local TM snapshots to get
the free space actually freed up. The snapshots hold on to stuff you
delete, until they age out a day or so later.

I think if you turn TM off it cleans them out, turn it back on again
after of course.

If not, then in Terminal "tmutil thinlocalsnapshots / 99999999999 4"
will clear them out:

I allow backup if my iDevices to iCloud. I’ve just deleted the backup for
my old iPhone 6S and eventually I gained more free space on iCloud. It did
take several minutes for the extra free space to be visible presumably due
to the time taken to resync over the “ether”?

I’m trying to backup (sync) my new phone to iTunes (not OTA to iCloud). I’m
guessing if deleting old iPhone backups doesn’t free up space(?) I’ll need
to clear out ~80gb elsewhere :(

I’m backing up (syncing) directly to my laptop. I assumed deleting old
backups would free up space. Not sure why it won’t!

Ah right then, my misunderstanding. I haven’t done a iPhone backup to my

I’ve started doing iOS updates OTA, but still sync/backup directly.

What?

The stuff I put above is all about "I deleted things on my Mac but no
more space was available".

Okay - now I’m confused! I’m on Mojave and connect a TM once a week (or
so). Do I have TM snapshots somewhere on my laptop then? I mean, TM isn’t
‘on’ as its not connected right now. Do I need to do run a TM backup?

This means that you need to delete snapsahots. If you let things sit long
enough, the snapshots will go away, but new ones will form, so you really
should just get rid of them if you want to see the space. Typing something
like

tmutil thinlocalsnapshots / 999999999999999 4

in Terminal should kill ‘em.

Gosh I haven’t had to use that command for a while! Having a 1TB internal

Everyone is Mike Easter -- the oldest gag in the book. 3d printers's
update system failed over and over again. Just look at the effort flatfish+++
once again had to spend to get Mike Easter able to pull messages from
a usenet server via reverse engineering. flatfish+++ once again, took
mistreatment from Mike Easter, instead of a great thanks, sign of indebtedness,
response - that I believe flatfish+++ was owed for the trouble and time
he spent on the explaination.

I can tell Mike Easter does not even know what is wrong with 3d printers.
Mike Easter's toned down the nonstop self-serving, insane attacks he
used to write but he is clearly consistent in the morality area. He simple
uses psychological manipulation more now to generate those posts. How
Mike Easter decides when to use the flood script for maximum impact http://usenet.sandman.net/misc/snit_flood.
The only way that I could disregard 3d printers's constant demand for
fixing because of crashing problems or badly written design flaws is
if I consumed the steady amount of delusion its community have been feeding
Mike Easter since 1981.

TIL about the existence of ’local snapshots’. Didn’t even know they
were a thing! Researching, Apple says here
<https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204015> to “Deselect “Back Up
Automatically”” in TM prefs. Thing is, I don’t have it on in the first
place. I’ve just done a manual TM backup and now my free space has
increased by about 20gb (to 50gb) - that's after deleting 3 or so
iPhone backups in the last couple of days (I assume the TM backup
purged whatever local snapshots there were?) Should I still do the
Terminal thing?

I don't seem to have any local snapshots. "listlocalsnapshots" comes
back as as 'dataless'.

Oh my! Right, vallor is looking to produce a JavaScript variable, which Snit
(a real advocate) can get from torrent sites, that is looped over as it removes
nodes. If he could stop being so lost he would understand how clueless he
sounds. vallor has toned down the hundreds of self-serving, idiotic posts
he used to write but he is surely not much different in the honesty territory.
He uses psychological manipulation more now to generate those posts. I have
known autobots who argue better than vallor does. Ironically, vallor virtually
asked Snit (a real advocate) for that stuff. I generally go post by post
unless someone has a history of particularly bad bullshit. With vallor, I
already understand what his method is, all he seeks is attention and, sadly,
he will do _anything_ to get it. His number one routine is to play 'victim'
but reality shows it's all of Usenet who are his suckers. No one here has
ever read my code, much less found a bug; still, in the dark recesses of
my brain, I'm thinking, "What if the program crashes".

The clam engine had a false negative hit, and the command line clamXAV
reported what the engine which isn't created by the same folks or company
reported it. I thought showing F. Russell a taste of his own medicine
might help the situation. It did not.

You likely think Fluxbox handles the desktop well. Nope. Not compared
to what normal people use.

It was F. Russell who got caught using hundreds of accounts over and
over, and these are 'people' who come out of the blue immediately into
threads where he was being proved wrong... over and over for over a decade.
Was that meant to be your best shot?
