Council confirms no Corran Ferry for ‘several weeks’

The main Corran ferry has been out of action since October so there have
been restrictions on HGVs whilst the smaller reserve ferry (Maid of
Glencoul) carried the service.

Maid of Glencould broke down on Friday and it is said it will be out of
action for weeks.

I had a visitor today who had planned to go to Strontian but was unaware
of the Corran ferry being off until he got to Corran.

I wonder what happened to that amphibious coach from IIRC the Netherlands
that was doing demonstrations at one time including Scotland where
Stagecoach considered it for the Renfrew Ferry.
Were they really serious.

There are very strong currents through the Narrows so it needs something
that can cope with that.

Breakdown of Calmac’s biggest ferry adds to island woes

Islanders are facing further disruption after CalMac’s biggest ferry, MV
Loch Seaforth, developed problems with its engine control system.

Several sailings between Stornoway on Lewis and Ullapool on the mainland
have been cancelled, as well as overnight freight services.

A spokeswoman for CalMac said: “On arrival into Ullapool last night, MV
Loch Seaforth reported an issue with its engine control and monitoring
system. Engineers are currently investigating the defect and are in contact
with specialist contract support.”
