I went to the land titles office to do some research, to find out who
owned a house in the 1930s. But they told me I need 100 points of ID
before handing over the application form! I can understand if one wanted
the current owner, maybe baby. I could be stalking my ex or fishing for
a protected witness. Why do I need such waffle when that owner is dead?

Why not just hand over the ID? What are you worried about?
