Nah, the problem is there are so many nerds on UKRM who speak that
furrin language. I barely know what a USB is and my Garmin works fine.

Are you using a PC/laptop that has USB3 only or using a USB3 hub? If so,
some chipsets are a bit dodgy if the USB device tries to change mode
while connected and it all goes into a sulk. The work-around is to
connect through a USB2 hub. You could try that just in case.

I haven't read the replies, but have you completely uninstalled &
reinstalled Express? There was a problem with fat16/32 devices in Win10
which was fixed by the latest version of Express, but maybe yours
hasn't updated properly.

I'll give that a go next time - fortunately I don't have to update it
again for a bit.

sussed it now - one needs to untick the default boxes to run Garmin Express
at startup.

Then, when you do fire up GE, right click on the desktop icon and run it as
admin as SD says.

Might need to change this setting every time GE does an update
