I thought it was one set of Kurds in three countries. <checks> make that
four countries. They could do with Kurdistan becoming an independent
entity recognised and protected by the UN (as promised 101 years ago).

Disunforget the name of the book, but the leading character was
experimenting with some snake venom & started sloughing bits of skin.

He had a gril come round to his place & the scene contained the line:

"His face fell - so he quickly kicked it under the sideboard"

(might not have the exact details right.)
