Starts with Wemyss Bay which is quite correct in my opinion! Long
time since I was there.

Yes indeed. I lived in the village 45 years ago, and commuted daily to
Paisley (Gilmour Street). A pleasant start and end to the working day.

For those for whom the link has expired, the list is:

1. Kew Gardens, London

2. Ribblehead, North Yorkshire

3. Great Malvern, Worcestershire

4. Wemyss Bay, Inverclyde

5. Llanaber, Gwynedd

6. Aviemore, Highland

7. York, North Yorkshire

Of those, I have visited three, but only one by train.

On a recent excursion down the Carlisle-Settle line, I hadn't been
aware that the station was going to be slap-dang at the southern end
of Ribblehead Viaduct, or that there would be a stop at all.

So I missed the chance to pause between two convenient schedules
mid-afternoon, and a stroll downhill to see the viaduct.

That was Tues 29 June... and TPE upset my leg back to NCL by
cancelling all services from LDS (seemingly from mid-afternoon) in
advance of the three-day strike.

It is the location that makes Ribblehead station "special". The actual
buildings have much in common with the buildings at other Settle &
Carlisle stations (where original buildings survive).

Ribblehead:

Kirkby Stephen:

Beware - Kirkby Stephen station is about 1.5 miles from the small town
with that name, and bus services are very sparse.

And Settle, which has plaques on the benches on the appropriate platforms
saying “Settle Up” and “Settle Down”.
