I've discovered that an iPad (3rd Generation) when running a slideshow on full
brightness will discharge the battery faster than it can be charged. That's
whether using a 10W Apple charger or the USB port of a MacBook.

Is this normal? I doubt it. I suspect it means that the USB cable is not up to
the job.

Screens a fair draw (power) plus being what 10 years old, have to assume
that it’s probably working quite hard on the slide show.

Plus with age, since it’s 10years old quite apart from reducing capacity,
the rate of charge will drop.

Other options are is it a 10w plug or a 5w one as the iPhones shipped with
5w until few years back.

Doesn’t seem that unreasonable to be honest, for a fairly low power machine
and charger at that age.

yes.

the cable isn't the limiting factor.

Funnily enough, the battery on this thing is in amazing condition. It stays
charged for weeks, if you leave it turned on. No sign of deteriation at all!

That was my experience with my iPad one of the original iPad Air’s in that
it’s capacity in terms of can I still use it all day was the same, though
did notice that it started to slowly loose charge over time if stored for a
day or so, only a few %.

I think the iPads size (battery) means they tend to last much longer than
iPhones which I at least find do reach point of battery is will not last a
day etc.

But even so with minor capacity loss, the charge rate will drop, folks with
older EV have reported this as well, which makes sense.
