Yes, at The Red Lion, we use the potters wheels to spin a few yarns (these get handed to
the knitting class next door at The Ram), after being fleeced by the landlord I get home
totally potted.

Well we are getting closer to our planned Solar PV being installed; the G99
is with our DNO, SSEN…

However this isn’t our issue at present, the bas goiler was given its’
annual BG service on Friday; within 15 minutes of the engineer disappearing
in the rain, our boiler starting farting very loudly, shaking the wall and
there was a smell of gas. I turned the system off and waited 3 hours plus
and hoping it may have been due to the very high winds we were experiencing
earlier, started it up again to be met with the same reaction. Boiler shut
down, long wait on BG site to converse with ‘Bot’, eventually transferred
to a human and after convincing ‘Martin’ that we had heap big dangerous
problem, was promised engineer on Saturday morning. 09:00 ish Saturday,
engineer arrived and boiler behaved ‘nicely’ for him; he checked and
tightened screws and checked for fumes / leaks and then as he gathered up
his tools in his case, started to say that all was well and …. the faulty
gas-flow control valve started to misbehave (another minute and the
engineer would have been in his van!); frantic telephoning ensued and he
ascertained there wasn’t an engineer within the area with a spare valve and
seal. We now wait for the gas man to cometh on Monday morning with new
parts… Cue Flanders & Swann…

I lost all trust in BG boiler servicing when they stopped doing a 'proper
job' of dismantling, cleaning etc before 'testing' and going on their merry
way. The BG boiler service is franchised and they are (I'm told) expected
to 'service' at least 10 boilers a day. So they start with the basic
testing with some clever device, which takes about ten minutes. If that
says everything is fine, they go not further.

Hope you are managing to keep cosy. If it's any consolation, my solar has
generated just 18.5 kWh since last Saturday. In a good, cold, sunny week at
this time of year, I might expect to get over 100 kWh.

We are not renewing our Homecare contract again; in fact I stopped the next
DD a couple of weeks back but I’ll be telling BG in due course - they had
better get this sorted out by then! The cost has crept up every year and is
now over £500 annually!!! In fact this is not the first time things have
gone awry after a servicing; though, I must say we had a very good engineer
two years ago last December, he came to aid a failed system and patched it
to keep us in a comfortable but safe state with heating. The engineer
ordered up a number of parts over the next two or three visits (he
originally came due to an annual service from another engineer that went
badly wrong) we had a new heat exchanger, flue system, heat and gas
sensors, seals, valves - even drained off and replaced the hot water
cylinder and fitted a new Tesla (who knew they made them?) stainless steel
one with a new immersion heater element - oh yes! Even a new much better,
quieter water pump! Before the engineer left on the first day he gave us a
1-2 kWatt fan heater ‘just in case’. Yesterday, the engineer who imparted
the bad news yesterday also left us a similar fan heater. We are keeping
warm but I don’t relish seeing the energy bill! (That is another ongoing
saga [no, not sex this time] with EonNext who we have been battling with
for a long time due to no smart meter readings - long story.)

I think if I were to buy a brand new property, I would like to choose what
white goods were fitted rather than leave it to a builder or agent to
choose the most lucrative choice for them! This goes for the heating system
as well. Oh! And no cladding thank you - George, don’t do that!
