Much of that was due to overzealous/misinformed police officers
mistaking guidelines for regulations. It was well covered at the time.
People were not restricted from driving to places where regulated
activities were permitted.

Decrease in extra time....22 minutes.

So for example, trip of 30 minutes, extra time needed 10 minutes, extra
time decreases by 22 minutes, journey now 18 minutes. With only a small
decrease in traffic, you could get to your destination before you set
off. Bring on the pandemics!

If people went out for a local walk because they thought they weren't
allowed to drive to remote places, the behaviour of many I encountered
would not have been possible amongst motor traffic.

Normally I mainly ride on single tracks but here was the opportunity to
use more significant roads. There was a memorable occasion when I was on
a two lane road with people spilling off the pavements and I had to
thread down the white line to apply the 2m distance. I regretted not
having a handlebar cam to record this.

We took our grandchildren out cycling on our local country roads here and saw no cars at all. Good practice for when they cycle to school on the roads.
