The device: iPhone 12

The OS: 15.3.1, the latest release version

The wireless: 802.11, subtype irrelevant, applies to a, b, g, n, ac, etc.

So I note that my iPhone 12 is NOT seeing local wireless. It doesn’t see
the SSIDs for _any_ 802.11 nets, including my WiFi6 and the 802.11g on
certain printers. It does see the hotspots on my iPad Pro and my iPad 6th
gen. A check with wireless-capable desktops and laptops shows that they all
see the various local SSIDs. The two iPads both see the wireless SSIDs, and
so does my other iPhone, a SE (2nd gen). The iPhone 12 used to see wireless.
It still detects 5G cellular wireless. (three bars 5G right now)

I restart it. It now sees wireless SSIDs and is currently connected to my
WiFi6 WAP. That WAP is about 3 metres from my current position, was running
properly and all other devices could see it, is in the same room, and
there’s a line of sight.

This is now the second time in under a week that the iPhone 12 has lost the
ability to detect 802.11 wireless but got it back after a restart. Does
anyone else have any similar problems?

This sounds like a hardware issue and I would contact Apple. You can do
that via the Apple Support app and they will have you run some
diagnostics on your phone, or you can go to an Apple store. It sounds
like you've done the right things, so the problem is probably in the
hardware.

Apple suggests doing a complete factory reset. This implies that they think
that the problem is software, not hardware. Have done a full backup, then the
reset. iPhone currently restoring from iCloud. We’ll see if the problem
persists.

That doesn't take long.

What was the outcome?

Why post on Usenet if you don't want interaction?

you’re an idiot. the problem occured twice over a period of nearly a week.
If you weren’t a complete and utter dolt you would know that it would take
_days_ to determine that it probably won’t be back... especially as it’s
_known_ that doing a restart makes it go away, and I did a restart as paret
of the factory reset. If the problem does not recur by this time next week,
then maybe it’s fixed. If it does recur, then, no, it’s not fixed and I
get back to Apple. In any case, as you’re too damn stupid to suggest
anything useful, I really don’t need any comments from the likesa of you,
vile one.

No one wants to talk to The Village Idiot.

But once a Village Idiot, always a Village Idiot. Since he forgets his
daily antics, he assumes that today is his first posting here and thus, he
can “contribute” and get respect.

Which explains why The Village Idiot continues to repost the same questions
over and over and over: Is ClamXAV malware? Do YOU agree with this
brilliant post from Hunter BD on the Apple support groups?

And so on.

After all, he is just trying to “expose bad guys”. 🙄

That's right, I am!

Does ANYONE reading in these groups use the ClamXav anti-malware
facility on their Apple computer?

No? Is that because it *IS* a scam?

Do tell.

*Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question*

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5931

The purpose of this User Tip is to help you write a question that will
draw out the best volunteers on this site—experienced users who can help
solve your problem competently and quickly. Presumably, that's what
brought you to this site, and to this User Tip.

First, it's important to understand that Apple Support Communities is
primarily a user-to-user technical support resource in which Apple
participates only in a very limited manner (as explained later). None of
your fellow Apple users contributing to this site represent Apple in any
way.

Have you installed https://clamxav.com on your iPad?

It's a free lunch! :-D

Some of us have better things to do.

I've shown you two separate AV companies running a Facebook page which
DOES allow people to comment.

ClamXav USED to allow comments - but has deliberately stopped folk so doing.

I think you’ll find it’s a lot more than 2 years. Just ignore or kf him.
Also wtf is this nonsense to do with the topic subject?

On a purely non-scientific basis, I have been researching malware since
2005. That was when I was scammed of £245.00 by someone who claimed that
I had purchased a mobile phone from them. It was a fraudulent
transaction but it had been paid by PayPal. I took up the matter with my
credit card company (Marks & Spencer) but, as I was away from home on my
narrowboat, by the time I received the requisite paperwork it was
outside of the 100 day limit for them to assist. In consequence, I had
to take up matters with PayPal directly but they wouldn't conduct
matters electronically - they said the Internet wasn't sufficiently
safe! So the matter was dealt with by snail mail over the following few
months. Eventually, PayPal credited my account with £245 and that should
have been the end of the matter.

However, on the very same day that I was awarded my funds, I received an
email from the 'aggrieved party' who claimed that they HAD sold me a
'phone and wanted the £245 which had been reclaimed from them by PayPal.
After exchanging a number of emails, they suggested that it appeared to
be nice where I lived and threatened to come and collect the money I
'owed' personally!. That is when I informed the police and ended up
discussing matters with the then High Tech Crime Unit. The police
suggested that I destroy my computer, buy a new one and then learn as
much as I possibly could about all the bad things which go on on the
Internet! I've been doing the latter ever since!

You may wonder why I'm so caught up in this. I'll tell you.

My younger son, Nick, was fascinated by computers from a very early age
and back in 1983, when I took early retirement from the Royal Navy, I
bought a BBC 'B' computer for all of us to use. Nick studied hard at
school obtaining 9 good GCE'O' levels and four 'A' levels. He then went
to Manchester University and read Physics. From there he went directly
to work for ICL (later Fujitsu) based in Stevenage. He became a computer
guru, probably much like you.

Sadly, in January 1999, he suddenly collapsed and died. He was just 28.
The autopsy found no cause for his death. As you might imagine, my wife
and I were devastated. We had a 'share' in a narrowboat and, during a
week on board at Easter time, we decided to give up work, buy a boat of
our own and sail off into the sunset. That's exactly what we did and
neither my wife nor I ever went back to work.

This might sound 'a bit naff' to you, but it is really in Nick's memory
that, since suffering from that scam back in 2005, I've been trying to
seek out the bad guys on the Internet, if you catch my drift.

QUESTION:-

Will you explain to me why some software for my iMac comes as a
'Package' - like Malwarebytes MBAM, for example - yet the ClamXAV
product is delivered as a 'zip' file?

Is that significant in any way?

Do YOU feel it necessary to use any form of anti-virus/anti-malware
software on an Apple computer?

With kind regards,

David

With kind regards,
David

Hope you are feeling well, but this constant talking to yourself has got
to stop.

To answer your question, no. It is not necessary to use an active
anti-virus system/program, if you ask me active anti-virus programs are
a kind of virus, that you willingly allow to gain control of your every
aspect of your hardware and ultimately your computing experience.

You have been trolling for a while, tell me what interest do you seek here?

Oops! My apologies. It's the EtreCheck software which comes as a zip
file. Apart from that small mistake, my question remains valid.

When I visit that link I see this pop-up https://ibb.co/ZdRxk8H

cdn.clamxav.com 104.26.2.249

When I visit the www.ClamXav.com website and seek to download the 'Free
Trial' I see THIS pop-up https://ibb.co/JjhpsY5

www.clamxav.com 185.181.9.52

Why did YOU provide a CDN?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_delivery_network

Why the different IP addresses?

I read this:-

//XAR (short for eXtensible ARchive format) is an open source file
archiver and the archiver’s file format. It was created within the
OpenDarwin project and is used in macOS X 10.5 and up for software
installation routines, as well as browser extensions in Safari 5.0 and
up. Xar replaced the use of gzipped pax files.//

Why use that for downloading and installing ClamXav?

Odd.
