And indeed where his homburg is now that he is unable to hold it on in the

That's brought back a few memories of the Southend music scene.
Kursaal Flyers, Doctor Feelgood, Wilko Johnson, Mickey Jupp... Diz
Derrick of The Paramounts was Latex's cousin and though he was never a
member of PH he's still teaching music in Leeds. Tim Gentle built his
music shop business on his reputation as a performer and the business
is still working today. Not the same form but still the same
(ghastly!) logo.

I suspect every music "scene" has a similar story but in 60's and 70's
Southend, everybody knew each other and everybody jammed with
everybody else. Happy days.

Yes, I rather agree, although, like almost everyone, I was bowled over
by AWSOP when it first appeared. Homburg is an underrated record, I think.

I was seriously impressed by AWOP, Homburg, not so much. I went to see
PH at Sheffield City Hall when God was a lad. They were supported by the
then largely unknown Jethro Tull and Irish band Tir Na Nog. PH were
plagued by equipment problems, which meant they were inaudible some of
the time. Tir Na Nog were really good, I think they only made one album,
but I bought it, and we still listen to it occasionally. Tull got better.

I still have my Tir Na Nog LP, too - and I think you're the only other
person I know who ever owned it. I haven't played it for years, though;
I liked the sound overall and I remember some decent tracks on it
(including the title track), but it never really grabbed me as an album.
Time to give it another try, maybe.

Wiki says they made three studio albums. I've never heard the other two.

What language is Tir Na Nog?
I sort of assumed it was some form or Gaelic - Google translate thinks it's
Croation - but still fails to translate it.

Ah, Google search puts accents on the i and O and shows my first thought
was good. Tír na nÓg - Land of the young

Colin Blackburn has been wandering alphabetically through his music
collection on Instagram and presented Hen Ogledd [Old North] today. I did
better with my searching and found the track he mentions, all about, and
largely filmed by, a cat called Trouble

Sorry, Sam - early morning brain.[1]

I did listen to it...and I still think much the same. Nice sound
overall, rather fey early 70s lyrics and nothing much to really cling on
to. I think this got quite a few late-night plays in my room at
university when a few of us might have shared a non-proprietary
cigarette, when it probably sounded rather better to me.

[1]Wasn't that a song by Gordon Lightfoot?

I blame Sid and his awful Gordon Lightfoot pun at the top of this
thread but I've had The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald as an earworm
for the best part of a week now! A song that breaks all the rules
(Three and a half minutes or less? - No. Song form AABA, ABACABA or
somesuch? - No) which I suppose is why it is such a great earworm.
