A woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs following a crash between a car and cyclist in Newport.

Gwent Police arrested the 30-year-old woman following a collision on Clarence Place in Newport on Saturday, March 5, shortly before 6.45pm, which left the road closed for hours.

The 25-year-old cyclist, from Newport, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for treatment. You can see updates from the incident here.

Gwent Police officers attended the scene along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said officers arrested a woman on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. She has since been released under investigation.

The force spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing at this time and anyone with information that could assist our investigation, including CCTV or dashcam footage, should call 101, quoting log reference 2200074462.”
