A boy cyclist was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car at a busy roundabout.

Emergency services were called to Town Lane in Southport following reports of a collision yesterday (March 7).

Police said the teenager was hit by a car while riding his bike at 8.46am.

He was taken to hospital after he suffered leg injuries in the crash.

The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their investigation.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson told the ECHO: "Police are currently in attendance on Town Lane, Southport, this morning, Monday 7 March, following a report of a collision involving a car and a cyclist.

"Emergency services attended and the male cyclist was taken to hospital for an injury to his leg.

"The driver of the car, a silver Honda, stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries."

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We’ve responded to an RTC involving a car and a bicycle following a call at 08.46. A teenage boy has suffered leg injuries and has been taken to hospital."
