That's impressive- I'll have to watch more of your stuff.

I thought I was hot stuff when Google said one of my photos has had
more than 50 000 views.

The whale watching company consists of 3 brothers and a restored wooden
boat that was originally built by their father (and is now named after
him). Recommended if you want to whale-watch from Akureyri. 2nd pic
is one of the brothers, named Saevar.

I can also highly recommend the Opal, sailing from Húsavík, where
we had much better success in seeing whales, plus of course it's a
sailing ship which is a really neat experience in itself.

I had to fit & ream a small end for my first Guzzi after I, ahem,
trashed it through stupidity while doing other work. Think it was the
time a cylinder seized.

Luckily, Guzzis have split big ends, so I put an adjustable reamer in
the lathe chuck and clamped the big end to the tool post, or someting
like that.

I forget the spec for the parallelism with the big end, but it might
have been something like 0.1mm in 200mm.

I did it by eye and the engine ran fine for thousands of miles
afterwards.

I believe it's actually 1 RCH in a furlong on Velocettes.

Hah. There's one guy on a Velocette FB group having kittens that's it's
going to blow up on me. <Proud>. I have ordered a bit of ground rod to
put through it and I'll see if I can measure any difference in height
from one side to the other.

I suspect that anything other than a sportsbike will be pretty
tolerant.

I reamed the small end I got made for the Giubeleo 98 'in situ' with a
hand adjustable reamer. That was after already drilling the oil holes. I
even managed to get them lined up.

It ran OK.

Or Good enough for St Phil Irving prolly - or knife-edge jig, orv block
and dial gauge. See pp 92-93 Tuning for Speed (1960 edition). He actually
cites Velos in that chapter (The connecting Rod and Big End). See also
'Truing and Balancing Flywheels'.

I heard a tale of an AJS single that had it's big end reassembled by
using a fire engine and a hydraulic jack.

Unfortunately it appears that chains are not directly convertible:

Most summer Sundays up and down England, for a start.

It's also still used as a proper nautical application, being
relatively simple to visualise for close-ish vessels. How far is that
ship away? Err, 50, 60, 70m, can't be sure, but roughly 3 chains,
close enough.

It's quite a useful distance - especially as the railway is marked out
in 20 chain lengths.

That's something I miss with the Metric system, the human factor,
length of your thumb, foot etc, area based on how much a horse can
plough in a day. What sounds better, kilowatt or horsepower?

Being Welsh should make them great choral singers, but they're just a
