A pensioner will appear in court next month accused of causing the death of cyclist Simon Chesher in a hit-and-run.

Mr Chesher, 38, was allegedly struck by 76-year-old Edward Hinchcliffe’s Toyota Corolla on the A417 Reading Road, Wantage, on August 2, 2020..

The Wantage man died a month later. Opening his inquest, senior coroner Darren Salter said Mr Chesher had suffered a serious head injury.

Appearing before Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Hinchcliffe, of Ormond Road, Wantage, entered no pleas to charges of causing death by dangerous driving and driving his Corolla dangerously on the A417 Reading Road, Featherbed Lane, the Milton interchange, B4493, and Didcot’s Haydon Road.

His case was sent to Oxford Crown Court for a plea hearing on April 8.

Did the inquest mention whether the unfortunate cyclist was wearing a
helmet or not?
