Australia's next submarine fleet will be nuclear-powered under an
audacious plan that will see a controversial $90 billion program to
build up to 12 French-designed submarines scrapped.

The ABC understands Australia will use American and British technology
to configure its next submarine fleet in a bid to replace its existing
Collins class subs with a boat more suitable to the deteriorating
strategic environment.

Powered not armed. Not sure there is any problem with this except that
it puts us into the nuclear fuel cycle. Wonder if a liquid fluoride
thorium reactor is an option.

Good move here to get rid of the frog shit, outdated technology.

Greens & left wing of the ALP will be furious.

Just heard the announcement
OH NO we're going to discuss with the US and UK building our own own
nuclear powered subs. This will end in tears why don't we just buy some
Virginia class or Astute class subs rather than fiddle around with the
design. Iirc the US has some older Los Angeles SSNs in mothballs
Wonder if the will need to go to Parliament given our non-nuclear stand

**I am a Greens supporter and I reckon nuclear powered ships make
perfect sense. Far less greenhouse impact. We should back it up with a
nuclear powered aircraft carrier too.

The one issue no one has mentioned is this:

Nuclear powered subs are very large and noisy. They are not good for
stealthy operations, whereas Collins class subs are relatively small and
stealthy. So, there's that.

My only questions are:
- How badly do we need such bloody expensive submarines?

- Could this money be better spent elsewhere?

- Are we still living the illusion of being a major naval military force
in the Pacific region?

- Which LNP politicians (plus those financial supporters of the LNP from
the relevant military industrial sector) will profit the most from
such new military contracts?

Whatever the decision is I am convinced ALP will support it 100%.
After all these days Labor aims to become the better Liberals.

Want to see the most spiteful nasties of Australian politics?
Here I show you:

Just look no farther than the Liberal Party of Australia and
tits dumb coalition partner:

This is their fundamental ideology (if one can call it that):
Capitalist neo-liberal/libertarian lies and alternate reality,
Lack of compassion for the already downtrodden,
Sociopathic greed & envy,
Endemic nepotistic and plutocratic corruption,
Vicious hunger for power and "born to rule mentality",
Xtian fundamentalism
Never ending misogyny & homophobia
Undeniable Anglo-Celtic racism and supremacy,
Unbridled hate for the underclasses,
Unrelenting vengeance seeking against political opponents...

No point in having either of them, they will never be used.

No they aren't. The French submarine that was being 'built' for the RAN
was a nuke powered sub converted to a diesel electric. They aren't
talking about the ICBM boomer style subs rather fast attack suds

All good questions but apply equally to the $90 billion French
conventional subs programme and think of the savings on diesel

Certain they well as they don't want to get wedged on this policy UNLESS
there polling/research shows there are more votes in marginal seats in
opposing it.

Petz

> Here's Joe Biden calling ScoMo "that fellow down under".

And why would this (if true which is an "if') be relevant to this
discussion on Australian submarine purchase/choice of technology?

Why do you assume I give a shit about what Biden says ScoMo?

As usual your brain dead tangential whataboutism is mind boggling!
Are you already at GoonCon2, Petz dear?

~~~
~~~
Busting Petz's idiotic hate propaganda sig is as follows:

Hey Petz, isn't it time that you change your dated sig now as your orange
idol Trump is just a bad memory and Biden is the new POTUS?

> Trump was never running against Biden.

The hell he was not. And he lost fucking big time. (YAY)
That is why he needed to invent "voter fraud" as an excuse both for
himself and his idiotic fanatical and deranged MAGA cult followers (like
you for instance.

The only voter fraud clearly confirmed to date was committed by deranged

paragraph!

Luckily Trump critiques and opponents aren't blind to Trump's vile hate

and demagogy. Only his cult members are blind to facts and reason.

BULLSHIT
But he is definitely responsible for hundreds of thousand of unnecessary
deaths under his watch.

Yeah, precisely!. Juts a decade ago no-one would have thought of Trump
actually managing to become the President. Yet it has happened.
The US system of government has been totally corrupted by the hard
capitalist right abusing the execute, judicial and enforcement arms of
the US government for their own benefit.

You are off to the fairies again in goonbags' fumes land!
Biden's son had bugger all to do with the presidency, he never had nor
ever will have any role in government ... so who the fuck cares what
the fuck he did or does. Nor do I care what his butler does during his
private time nor how many times his dog pees on the carpet.

Absolutely certainly in fact.

Those make even less sense because everyone knows where they are.

Doesn’t do that. No one is going to be stupid enough
to attack us and even if some fool like Kim Jong Un
or Xi was that stupid, they know we wouldn’t nuke
them and have them nuke us.

This is a newsgroup, moron. We thrive on racial insults, and moronic
replies such as yours. Your attempt to censor comment is noted.
Typical left wing loser chip on the shoulder attitude.

Because they are wrongly opposed to nuclear power, as you appear to be,

What's the point of a Chinese friendly Joe Biden selling Australia
Nuke submarines with tracking devices, with that code given to the
Chinese by his top General Milley?
https://is.gd/xXtqSp
Biden wouldn't not sell ScoMo (from down under) near expiry dated
Pfizer then Biden hung up on him!

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot
survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable,
for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves
amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling
through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself
For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar
to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he
appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He
rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night
to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so
that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

- Marcus Tullius Cicero

On the face of it Willey's action do seem treasonous. However it shows
how crazy the military thought Trump was. Bob Woodward's book is going
to be an interesting read.

Malcolm Turnbull said to Trump: A DEAL IS A DEAL

But Scomo renegs, tears up a contract. Why should anybody want to sell
anything to Australia, when the PM cannot be trusted to act like a
gentleman?

Wasn't there some sort of problem however with the French? Design
issues? Building issues? Security issues? The contract should have
an "out" clause if certain conditions aren't met, maybe it did?

I would expect a out clause was in contract, normally requires a fee.

Wonder if Biden and General Mark Milley have provided China with a
detonation button for the US Nuclear Submarines heading for Australia?
Both Biden and Milley are China operatives. Both complacent in turning
Afghanistan over to China.

Trump was never running against Biden.
He was running against voter fraud.

And now he's a high paid artist with no discernible talent.
