I keep catching my self 'singing' "the bee song" by Arthur Askey ...

Just realised why ... there is an advert at present that uses the tune,
can't remember what they are advertising but I keep getting" Oh what a
glorious thing to be ..." going round my head.

I suppose I'll have to go to A&E now to get that extracted.

I phoned 111 yesterday because SWMBO had been hit by a car and was in
some discomfort. There was a long recorded message telling me how much
better all round it would be if I were to use the 111 wibble. So I went
on the wibble and the first few paragraphs were all about how it might be
better if I just phoned them on 111. Fbq gung sbe n tnzr bs fbyqvref.
Looked up oomelegs on the interwibble and decided to leave it overnight.

Reporting the incident to the constabulary was much easier.

I hope she's okay Peter. 'Some discomfort' and not calling 999 is an
indication that it isn't too serious, but a nasty experience for her anyway.

Thanks, Tone. She can't walk or put any weight on the leg but otherwise is
just annoyed that she can't go out for her daily walk. Given that she's 74
she got off quite lightly - she thinks she was knocked head-over-heels.
Some kind passers-by looked after her and brought her home.

There is a tune I hear in my head. I'm told its the latest release by Taylor
Swift,, but although I have no interest in it or know what its called the
little jingle bit keeps coming back a bit like with an ice cream van. Do you
think there are people in record production evaluating these things and
craftily arranging songs to contain them?

I don't need to think it, I listen to Radio 4. And practically every
week there is an episode in a series like Sideways or Tales From The
Stave or Front Row or Soul Music or one off programmes like How To
Write A Power Ballad or Songwriters' Boot Camp which go into the
techniques and tricks involved.

It's probably an artefact of my age but I like most of the Chinn and
Chapman stuff while the Stock Aitken Waterman nickname deserves an extra S
IMHO, similar to the silent C that belongs in "Rap Music".

Chinn & Chapman tailored their songs to the artist performing them, SAW
simply produced all songs to the same formula. Intro is the chorus
instrumentally, hold last chord, modulate up into verse, follow Jonathan
King formula (verse, chorus, verse, chorus, clever bit, verse chorus).

From the comments of some of the artists it was almost the other
way round - but yeah.

The most successful *band sure and Lennon and McCartney were top
songwriters for quite some time but I think both SAW and Max Martin beat
them easily, I'm not so sure about Chinn and Chapman. Writing for many
bands helps a lot.

Perhaps not expressed exactly correctly - Chinnichap had visions of what
they wanted each of the artists to be and wrote songs accordingly. They
initially had the idea of Mud being a tango revival band, for example.
They did alter their approach for each band, so Mud went dance and then
shades of rock and roll, Sweet became glam rock from being bubblegum.

How do you define successful? Number of number 1 hits, number of sales,
number of downloads, number of streams?

MacCartney has had the most number 1 hits as a songwriter of anyone.

The Bee Gees were prolific songwriters when they weren't singing
annoying toothy falsettos.

Ed Sheeran occupied the top 20 positions of the chart simultaneously
recently.
