A Tour de France cyclist has praised Coventry's newest cycle lane. Work on the Binley Road development started earlier in the month.

Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman recently took to social media to compliment the new cycle lane, which is being created at the moment. He responded to a progress tweet from Adam Tranter, the Walking and Cycling Commissioner for the West Midlands.

Adam initially posted a picture of the progress on Twitter, captioning it: "Brilliant to see progress being made on the Binley Cycleway in #Coventry. Our streets need to work for everybody and reallocating road space to provide safe cycling infrastructure will offer people a genuine choice in how they travel."

Former Yellow Jersey wearer Mr Boardman quote tweeted the post with comments: "Great to see the progress in the Midlands. 2022 is the year we start ramping up delivery @activetravelengland Easy, healthy and saves you money."

The cycle lane when completed will connect the city centre to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire and Binley Business Park. It is hope the 6km route will help tackle climate change while also getting residents more active. The lane will compliment the cycleway already in use in Coundon.

Addressing the latest development, Councillor Jim O’Boyle, who is responsible for climate change, previously said: “We are making a really co-ordinated effort to provide more sustainable transport choices in the city. This cycleway is more evidence that we want to see long-term improvements to our infrastructure using new technology, innovation and new road designs that accommodate all travel options.”

If ever there was a job with an irresolvable tension between its aims...

Ah! So he's the bugger! Just lock him up and let the rest of us get back
to normal.

....previously said: “We are making a really co-ordinated effort to
provide more sustainable transport choices in the city. This
fairy-cycleway is more evidence that we want to see long-term
improvements to our infrastructure using new technology, innovation and
new road designs that accommodate all travel options.”

Isn't it ironic that the very next thread in ukrc (as I write) is entitled:

"Why fairy-cyclists don't use fairy-cycle lanes, No.9473"?
