Whilst I still find it a little bizarre to be finding myself appearing
in the stats for both m/c groups these days, I am a little unsure as to
why I am appearing twice in each in both group's listings? (Both as
ChrisND and ChrisND@UKRM) It may be because I switched from windoze to
ubuntu in 2021 and therefore from Mailthingy to Thunderthingy? - but it
would be nice to know. Its not so much that combining the two would put
me higher up the list <VBG> but that I have no wish to distort the
statistics (again) :-)

It's not the change of OS or newsreader, but the name you use to post
under. All your recent posts appear under the long name - should be
easy to change it, although I don't know exactly where in
thunderthingy. In Agent it's in the Options menu, unde User and System
Profile.

I think you have mentioned this before, and everyone else using TB has
not seen that issue, concluding it is not TB but something at your end :-)

Pan, I miss using that, I stopped when it no longer worked with Solaris
and the development appeared to have stalled.

Ok, so maybe a version issue? I've been using TB for years, multiple

To be honest, "regularly" was a slight exaggeration. I think it happened
twice. So I dumped it.

Not seen that particular issue with TB but the Linux version does not like
Infernal September and just because you don't see problems doesn't mean other
cannot. I've seen issues reported elsewhere.

Which is strange, because it runs fine for me on Linux as well as the
Mac and Solaris.

I used to use TB a fair amount because it wasn't too difficult to
share the .newsrc file between it on Windows PCs and tin on my various
Linux machines.

My recollection is that it did occasionally hiccup (or hiccough if
you must) and require resetting its server name parameters. I don't
remember it corrupting the .newsrc file although it may have happened
a time or two.

Now I just use tin exclusively. For all its faults, the simplicity
of the totally text-based interface, no GUI, means it will just work
so long as I can SSH into at least one of my Linux machines.

I use it as an email client mostly. I did bother with a separate Usenet but I
unrecall which one and it was pretty shite. <Touch Wood> sticking leafnode
between TB and the server has solved its particular gremlins. This is the only
group I bother with, some of those I used to follow had not had a single post
for years so I never bothered resubscribing when I switched clients.
