South Wales Police have said they now believe a cyclist was run over deliberately and are trying to identify the person responsible who failed to stop at the scene of the incident.

Police were called to Ffordd Cynore, Fforestfach, Swansea, near the Tesco Petrol Station, at 3pm on Sunday (March 20) after a grey Ford Ecosport and electric bike were involved in a collision. A 26-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the crash.

On Monday morning, South Wales Police said: "The rider of the bike, a 26-year-old man from Fforestfach, was taken to hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries. The road was closed for a period of time whilst enquiries were carried out, and we thank the local community and those affected for their patience during this time."

Pictures taken at the scene showed a high police presence and cordons in place. There was also an appeal for any witnesses to the incident to get in touch.

Police have now issued an update on social media. It said: "We now believe this collision was a deliberate act. Officers are trying to identify the person responsible who failed to stop at the scene of the incident. Anybody who may have seen what happened, or who knows who is responsible, is urged to contact us and give reference 2200092020.
