There was a lorry drive shortage long before brexit a friends dad was one.
It was even on the undercover boss program they couldn't get any new drivers because the pays
was so low as a starting salery, and they changed the regs so companies didn't pay for training.
The 'exams' got much harder especailly for those in the UK, while the EU drivers weren't checked which is why
you got some falling asleep at the wheel after 12_+ hours driving.
EU drivers were allowed to drop off their stuff, then get other HGV jobs in the UK while they were ment to be resting,
because checks weren't done.

When covid struct we had 1 year of no one being trained up to fill the empty posts, then the DVLC or whatever they called themselves
took 3+ months to sent our licences for thos that pasts the test.

When I worked at a school, a very hot.... er.... fit PE teacher suggested we should all count our calories and report in what exercise we'd done over the weekend, in an email to all staff. I replied (to all staff) asking how many calories I would burn having sex. She said it would depend on the position. I asked if she would like to do a demonstration at the next staff meeting and got no reply.

Happy to talk about that. Of those who are vaccinated the chances of ending up
in the hospital because of Covid is very low... if I recall correctly it is
about 10% of that of those who are not vaccinated. Maybe the 10% is for those
who are triple vaccinated -- but even for those with only one or two shots it
is far less. And the risk of death is even less than that 10%.

10 is a smaller number than 64. I grew up with stone, pounds, ounces, fahrenheit, mph, inches, feet, yards. I went metric with half of it. Centigrade is easier because of the zero at freezing and the 100 at boiling. I use kg and grams for everything except human weight, I measure in either inches or cm when doing woodwork, whichever is the closest one on the measure! Stuck with miles and mph because that's what the country uses. Mind you I can't stand it when an American says "It's 40 degrees outside!" I don't know if that means chilly or really hot!

Yeah, some remoaners ;-) basiclly wanted to bring back slavery and long hours, leaving the EU would mean paying the locals
a decent wage rather than importing people on low pay and bad working conditions.
When we joined the EEC it was fine then it became the EU and the plotics changed, think it was early 90s .

I wasn;t sure at the time of voting whether it best to leave or remain, but now we have left I tend to think that we will be better out than in,
in the long term.

I voted to leave and still feel the same way, but I disagree on the wages. Wages should be what that person is worth. If you don't like the job, work elsewhere. If they don't pay enough, they won't get good workers.

Me too although over the last few years KG have sort of taken over.
The only time I;d use pounds or it makes more sense if boxing on TV not that I watch it much.

Yes I'll use anything rather than have to try and find the tape measure, the lengh of the screw driver I'm currentl using works quite well.

Yea I agree and their gallons are differnt to ours and don't they have 16 ounces in 1 lb. yes the temperature scale
is the most confusing.
The thing that is annoying me most at the moment is why doesn't my 4mm spanner any use on M4 nuts !
