I've now realised the the coronation won't be for more than a year. I
expect we'll be getting interminable updates about that for the entire
time. Bit like the 2000 Olympics, but much worse.

film of the queen's second visit to Australia when the NFSA
uploaded it to YouTube a month or two ago, so maybe I'm an
exceptional case.

Well yeah, I could have done without a lot of that. Still I didn't
know about it until tuning in for the evening news - I was
wondering why a flag was at half mast when I went into town.

I wonder if we could have an equivalent of "The Games", which almost
made the Olympic suffering worthwhile. Though it would have to be
without the sadly late John Clarke, which might make it a non-starter
from all directions.

I watched a few of the old coronation films. The Re
mastering/restoration is very good. So too are most of the other
historical movies of that time.
Supposedly, this would be routine now with all archival movies and
even with films of the 1970s. They're even colonizing old war movies.
EG The movie "Vampire Circus" (c1971) is restoration perfection and
even includes some of the racy scenes chopped out by the then censor.
Some old movies are certainly worth watching again.
