As one twin hurt his leg I thought it might be Rex and Toby. One of
them was a pro sports player, I think? Had to stop when he hurt his
leg.

One of the followup comments says s/he doesn't think somewhere like
Ambridge would be on mains gas (s/he was wondering why the cost of
fuel/energy hasn't come up yet [I don't think the caps apply to heating
oil - not sure about bottled/non-mains gas]). Thoughts? I visualise
Ambridge as not vastly different in size to my village, which is.

I have heard of five-fold increases in the last year for oil…

just read the prices are rocketing and farmers are going out of business…

The technology is changing everywhere and the big boys have never been
that interested in adhering to old standards when they think they can
force their own standards on everybody else. It's only a problem for
us remnants left behind by the current revolution and I find the
easiest thing for me to do is to change any problematic punctuation on
my own reply. ICBA to work out which piece of punctuation is actually
the trigger each time so I just edit the lot. Job done.

You are right, there is no cap on heating oil. I've been reading some
very distressing stories elsewhere.

And there's no cap on business contracts either AFAIAA. Does that
include farming business contracts as well?

Are we about to hear Pip squeaking about the pips squeaking, I wonder?

Indeed, I (and my neighbours) have had a form (well two, as one is in
Welsh) asking me to register any fowl I own and keep them all indoors
against the current plague.

The price of heating oil has shot up recently - we're on mains gas here but
recall the high cost to keep two rooms warm (and cook, though that wasn't
'extra') in the big farmhouse we were renting 15 years ago.

Something unhelpful has happened to the price of Red diesel too. Where is
the agricultural editor when they need her?

I'm not sure - sorry about that! I hadn't realised that there was
anything "smart" in the bit I copied and pasted :( I'll try to check
that in future.
