I got a new Macbook when they released them and was very impressed with the
performance - mind you, going from a 2010 model to the 16" M1 Pro I suppose
this shouldn't have come as a surprise.

Anyway, I had my cataract operation earlier this week and this morning was the
first time I had used the laptop since then...

Wow! Gosh, isn't the screen good? I just can't get over how much better things
are. Plus, not needing larger type or glasses to use the thing is also a bonus.

Well done Apple and another thanks to the NHS.

My left eye is starting to get a bit bad now so my turn soon I hope.

I bought the original M1 MBP and sometimes wish I had waited for the larger
model to arrive. I’m tempted to do a trade-in.

Yes indeed on both counts :) :)

Well good luck with it. 6 weeks from seeing the consultant to having it done
so that was a result.

I was tempted by the 14" but, as I'd waited so long and because of my
eyesight. Now I could probably manage with a 10" screen!

I've been quoted 6 to 8 weeks when I visited the opticians yesterday.

That is good. I had to wait 12 weeks from the optician referring me to getting seen. Then that was the first appointment that the consultant had that was cancelled due to COVID. Lockdown when unable to read a computer screen was fun. Then I was told it was a year to wait. So I went private.

I got referred during lockdown so that caused a delay before seeing the
consultant after which it was quite speedy.
My problem now is that there are no follow up appointments available until the
second week of April so I'm without glasses until then...

If the measurements were good and you are not very astigmatic then simple reading glasses from Boots etc might be enough.

I have 4 something on astigmatism so I need prescription glasses but my adjustment for long sight is nothing and only 3 dioptre for reading and that ius in the range of reading glasses
