There seems to be some disagreement about the stats of the bridge,
depending on what source you look at.

As a minimum the piers below the road are supposed to be 53m, and the
towers above 84m. From the video they appear to be about 3/4 of the way
up the tower - so say 60m above the deck, or 105m over the river.

Some sauces say the deck is 61m high - but I think that is at the
highest point at the centre of the span, and not close to the piers.

They could do a risk assessment, and conclude that these were obviously
competent climbers, with appropriate kit, so leave them to it. Don't
close the bridge to traffic, and basically ignore them!

(There was another case recently where they tunnelled under an access
road, and hid in the tunnel, so the police just re-opened the road. That
upset them!)

I expect they have had plenty of dialogue, but having been told in no
uncertain terms that their goals are not achievable at this time, and
pose a serious risk to the energy security of the nation, they decided
they did not like the answer.

One of the main problems with direct action of this type is that it just
steers public opinion against them and their goals.
