It seems that I may shortly become the custodian of a Rayburn, which I
understand to be a kind of plebeian Aga and therefore really rather
umratic.

I'm sure somerats have spoken of their Agas/Rayburns in the past, and
I'm wondering if there are any hints and tips that anyrat can offer.

An electric induction hob and a gas oven will, I understand, be available
for cooking that requires fine control.

What is this Rayburn powered by? Like Agas, they run continually and
cook largely from stored heat. They are slightly more responsive, and
quicker to either heat up or cool down than an Aga. The induction hob
and gas oven are likely to be your sole cooking options in the summer,
as the Rayburn will be very effective in heating the fabric of the house.

We had a Rayburn cooker in our first house. We burned wood in it, and it
heated the room nicely, but it was difficult to control the oven
temperature.
