I don't know when this changed (Monterey?) but it used to be that if you
moused over a link in an email, you got a popup of the URL. Now, you sit
around while it downloads a QuickLook view of the actual web page, which can
be SLOW.

Is there a 'defaults write' solution to this, does anyone know? A quick search
didn't turn up anything.

Is this with Apple Mail? If so, I'm not seeing this behaviour - I still get a
popup showiung the URL. As you say, it must be some setting but I've not
knowingly changed oine recently!

That doesn't happen here, Tim.

I get a pop-under - a grey box showing the full URL. Would you like an
example?

Yes, Apple Mail. So anyway... I've just removed
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist and it seems to have cured the
problem. I assume that plist has been superseded by something, since it was
last modified in 2007, and Mail hasn't recreated it.

So rather unsatisfyingly, I don't understand why it's worked, since a brief
scan of the file's contents didn't turn up anything that looked relevant, but
I *think* it has.

I assume so! Slightly taken aback to realise I've not done a clean install in

I tend to do them when I’m a bit bored! Now where did I put my bootable
