with my next appointment (on the phone) to start to talk to someone
about treatment (i.e. surgery). <sigh>

Oh dear. That is sad to hear. There seems to be a wide variety of
where there is a backlog and where things are going more normally, as
well as a variety of GP practice practises. It ranges from 5 star to
no stars at all, like our one.

Nothing like as unpleasant here Sid, but I'm waiting for an operation to
sort my second hernia. My first one was done under a local anaesthetic
at a nearby clinic. This time the doctor tried to push the hernia back
in, but my agonised screaming discouraged him. He stood back with the
air of a motor mechanic shaking his head and going "Tsk tsk tsk, this is
going to need some work". This one has to be done under full anaesthesia
and I haven't had a date for it yet. There are positives though, I'm not
expected to do any hard work around the home. Hoping and praying that
your bodily parts get repaired soon.

dealt with 4 years back, I was informed that my appendix had also been
removed as it was tangled up - two for the price of one!

When GC#1 was diagnosed in hospital with a grumbling appendix a few months
back, her parents were asked if they wanted it removed. D#2 was rather
horrified to be asked but gave consent.
I'm not convinced it was informed consent, as no one told her the appendix
is now viewed as storage for antibodies so kick-starts the system to fight
off nasties which have been met before - a sort of built in vaccine.

After I had a hysterectomy (1) the surgeon told me that they normally
removed the appendix while they were "in there" but he hadn't in my case
because I was "bleeding so much I couldn't get out quick enough."

(1) Somebody once said to me "I'm only half a woman, you know." I
wondered what on earth she meant!

My mum had an appendix that grumbled now and then all her life, until
she died, aged 99.
