What surprised me was that the 300,000 troops involved were reported to be
more than 50% of Russia's army. While 600K boots on the ground could do a
lot of damage that's not enough to occupy a country the size of Ukraine.

I have that promble: mine's normally 95/something equally low. Telling
them that being (say) 120/95 is worryingly high is nearly always
dismissed out of hand.

Well I does have BP (not BP), "normal" apparently wasn't really paying
much attention ... think she said 135/78 or similar

I thought that I did not have White Coat Hypertension until I started
taking my pressure at home. There was as much as 20 points difference on
the average for both diastolic and systolic. I have learnt now how to
drop the values by controlling my breathing so that I can bring the
white coat values down to near home values. Mind you doctors and nurses
being in a hurry and judgmental does not help.

Makes me wonder whether I was started on drug intervention too early.

This is what happened to me. My doctor encouraged me to take my own
monitor in to check against hers - just to be sure they were not
calibrated differently.

Based on the above, I was allowed self medicate according to results
and, after a few bits of weight loss and other dietary changes, I got
off the drugs :-)

That is important. Accurate home based monitors were not available at
any reasonable cost when I was first diagnosed as hypertensive, more
than 40 years ago. The change to electronic sphygmomanometers is
relatively recent, I bought mine just before the doctor switched from a
mercury sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. When I realised that the
doctor was using the same monitor as myself and that there was a
consistent difference I took mine in to a regular check-up. They both
gave similar readings.

Part of it could be the journey to the doc's. My GP practice is at the
end of a hill, and I'm always out of puff by the time I get there, so
my heart will be racing as well.

I went to the doctor and was sitting in the waiting room and I read a magazine and it was some type of article about Pakistanis fighting Indians, the subject matter was blood letting , eyes gouged out, lances poking through stomach's , guns shooting off people's heads , dogs being murdered and all kinds of horrible stuff like that and when I got to finally see the physician he took my blood pressure and he asked me "why is your blood pressure off-scale high?"

I suspect that driving to the practice is also not likely to help.

Over the past few years, I've had my blood pressure taken so many times
that I'm now quite relaxed about the unpleasant feeling. I'm sure it
didn't help a few years ago though. I've been on lisinopril and
indapamide for it for years.
