Katie Hims' play "Luxembourg Gardens" was the afternoon Drama today.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000lv6z

It was first performed in 2020. I can't remember when she started
writing for The Archers and consequently I'm not sure whether this
represents moonlighting to or from TA.

Anyway, I think it was really good. A lot of scene setting was
necessary and yet there wasn't a single "This gun I have in my right
hand is loaded"[1] moment that I can recall. And she treated us as
grown-ups and allowed people to talk to each other in French without
adding helpful translations.

If you haven't heard this play before - or even if you have - I'd
thoroughly recommend it.

Nick
[1]For those who didn't know already, This gun I have in my right hand
is loaded is a radio play by Timothy West which was created to point
out the pitfalls in writing a radio play.

Didn't know she wrote for TA but did know she has written a lot of
really good stuff which I have enjoyed.

I first noticed her name on a set of five dramas under the title
Listening to the Dead (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03nv05z - all
still available to listen to) and added her to my list of writers to
look out for. I was delighted to hear she'd joined TA. I probably
wouldn't have given a play called Luxembourg Gardens a second thought
if the name Katie Hims hadn't been attached.

I caught bits of it. It seemed intelligent.

First, that reminded me of this (in)famous line from "Plan 9":

"He's dead!
(Pause)
And SOMEone's responsible!"

Then, it reminded me of this exchange (from another radio thing):

ZB: "If it'll help, imagine I have a blaster-ray in my hand."
"Er - you _do_ have a blaster-ray in your hand."
ZB: "Well you shouldn't have to tax your imagination too much, then."
