I’m travelling home from Arran, on the train from Ardrossan Harbour to
Glasgow Central (2F82 for those who care). We arrived at Lochwinnoch on
time but at the time we were supposed to leave the lights switched to
emergency, the PIS went off and the Internet glitched for a minute or two
but then came back. The train WiFi apparently stayed up. There was a PA
announcement a few minutes ago to say there is a train fault and they were
trying to fix it. The train manager has just walked through to say that
there’s a problem getting the electricity from the wires to the train, the
driver’s trying to fix it and he’ll keep us posted.

The driver has several times now come into the middle carriage and guddled
in an equipment cabinet.

I may be spending the night in Glasgow.

The train manager thinks we may be towed somewhere if the fault can’t be
fixed. RealTimeTrains thinks we left on time but haven’t reached the next
station.

The driver has just walked along the platform and told a passenger “I don’t
think we’re going anywhere”.

Pan’s down, and apparently they’re going to stop another train (wrong
line?) to pick us up. The station PA is announcing a problem with the
overhead lines.

failure of the electricity supply. Please listen for further
announcements.”

In the mean time they stuck 380 004 onto the back of our failed 380 007 and
they’ve both gone off to the hospital for sick trains. Our train manager
tried to get us taxis from here but was turned down. Then he thought we
could all get back on the broken train, but again no. Now we’re waiting for
the delayed 21:31.

Ooh, excitement! Now there’s just been a station announcement telling us
that due to trespassers in the Lochwinnoch area there may be cancellations
and delays. Oh joy.

For those who care, this train is 2T30, which has made additional stops at
Lochwinnoch and Howwood, which has slightly confused Real Time Trains.

Do you know what the true fault was? OHLE or train fault?

Train fault. The coupled train ran off perfectly well as did the following
train which stopped to pick us up. It wasn’t an entirely smooth operation
from the passengers’ point of view but in terms of getting the failed train
out of the way and clearing the line it went pretty well. It’s also the
first time I’ve heard detonators in real life - our driver, who took the
paired set away, must have been down the line and placed them. The train
manager didn’t seem to have been involved in that.

Apparently not - it seems the trespassers were in front of our failed train
(and it was a train fault rather than an OHLE fault). The train manager
happened to be standing by me when he noticed the signal clearing in front
of our train and expressed relief that the trespasser(s) had moved. He
confirmed that the signal would have been set to prevent trains from
entering the area where the trespassers had been reported.
